The feature lies within Candor Chasma, a vast canyon system carved over billions of years by wind, landslides, water activity, and geological forces, this region is part of the larger Valles Marineris, one of the biggest canyon networks in the solar system. At first glance, the formation appears geometric and artificial, its triangular faces giving the impression of a carefully designed structure, however, this illusion fades when scientists examine the surrounding landscape in detail, revealing that the “pyramid” is actually a small mountain shaped by erosion.

Images captured by NASA orbiters, including the powerful HiRISE camera aboard the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter, show that the structure is part of a broader terrain filled with similar features known as positive relief knobs, these are remnants of more resistant rock that remain standing after softer material has been worn away over time.The Candor Tetrahedron measures roughly 290 meters across and about 145 meters tall, making it slightly more prominent than nearby formations, but still consistent with natural geological processes, its sides are uneven and irregular, lacking the precise symmetry expected from any artificial construction.
