Are “invention” and “discovery” the same thing?

Many people consider discovery and invention to be the same, but they are not the same thing. Discovery is something that existed on earth or in the universe long ago but people did not know about it. For example, we can call the laws of gravity given by Sir Isaac Newton or the laws of relativity given by Albert Einstein as discoveries. The universe has always followed certain and mysterious laws since its birth. Newton or Einstein were only able to solve this mystery and bind the laws into some laws.

On the other hand, invention is something that is created entirely by human efforts and which never existed before. Artificial things made by human hands are inventions. For example, the smooth paper that I am looking at while reading this article or the mobile phone that I use to talk to my friends every day are all man-made and never existed in nature before, these are all inventions.

Discovery is finding hidden truths in nature, and invention is creating something new through human creativity.{alertSuccess}

Imagine, you are reading this article sitting on the sofa or in bed at home. You have this shiny magazine in your hand, an LED bulb above your head and your favorite thing in the world, your smartphone, just a little distance away! Things may seem very natural and accessible to you. But was everything like this twenty or thirty years ago?

A hundred years ago, did everyone's house have lights on at night? The simple answer is, no. It may seem unbelievable to you if you know the history behind it.
